Hockey and sports fans are anticipating the completion of Florida Hospital Center Ice, a multi-use ice and sports complex located in Wesley Chapel between State Road 56 and Interstate 75 (3173 Cypress Ridge Rd., Wesley Chapel, 33544).
The project is more than just a hockey rink: the 13-acre, 150,500 square foot complex will house 4 ice rinks in addition to a basketball court, a soccer and lacrosse field, indoor track as well as many other amenities. The complex will also have a convertible component, allowing the rink to serve as a floor for concerts, conventions, and other events. The project has Pasco County poised to become a major destination for large-scale sports and entertainment.
The complex, set for completion this fall, broke ground in February 2015. The principal on the project, Z Mitch, LLC, purchased the site in Wesley Chapel late 2014 for $2.64 million with a $20 million projected cost for completion.
The project is a major milestone for Pasco County’s commercial real estate market. A long-term sub-market to Tampa, the addition of a top-of-the-line ice and sports complex could serve to put Pasco on the map for strong commercial development.
The complex is seen as a positive addition for Southwest Florida and the greater Tampa Bay area, having already garnered support from many business communities in the region. Tampa Bay Lightning owner, Jeff Vinik, has already stated plans to work in partnership with the complex for future team events. Real estate investors are expecting the project to spur a variety of retail interest.
